NEWS FROM SFLNC regarding
SF NIGHTLIFE
On Monday, July 8th, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors will vote on
legislation by Supervisor Mark Leno creating a civilian Entertainment
Commission which will assume the authority to grant all entertainment
related permits from the police department.
Your emails, faxes and phone calls are critical to making this happen.
While there is widespread support at the Board for this legislation,
Supervisor Jake McGoldrick has stalled the process by introducing a
technical amendment to the legislation which threatens it's passage. In
short, the McGoldrick amendment requires funding for the commission be
defined up-front as "revenue neutral." This ignores the position by the
sflnc and Supervisor Leno's office that the commssion wil become active in
2003 and be funded at that time. Requiring the funding to be defined and
allocated during a budget shortfall could threaten the passage of the
Entertainment Commission outright.
Please email, fax and phone supervisor Jake Mcgoldrick and urge him not to
introduce his amendment to the Entertainment Commission. Urge the other
supervisors below to vote against the Mcgoldrick amendment, and urge them
to vote for the Entertainment Commission as introduced by Supervisor Mark
Leno.
